Privacy policy

ArcEscape is a browser extension built by Soules Studio Ltd ("we", "us"). This policy explains what data the extension accesses, how it is used, and what is stored. It also covers the arcescape.com website, which works differently from the extension.

What ArcEscape does

ArcEscape helps you export bookmarks from Arc Browser into a standard HTML file that any browser can import. It works in two ways:

• Mode A: You select your local StorableSidebar.json file. The extension reads and parses it entirely on your device.
• Mode B: You visit an arc.net/space/ or arc.net/folder/ page. The extension extracts bookmark data from that page.

Data the extension collects

None. The ArcEscape extension does not collect, transmit, or store your bookmarks, URLs, titles, or file contents on any server. The extension has no analytics, no telemetry, and no tracking. The only outside service it contacts is ExtensionPay, to check whether you have paid (see payment processing below).

Data that stays on your device

The extension uses chrome.storage.local to temporarily store:

• Bookmark data from Mode B: When you click the ArcEscape button on an arc.net page, the extracted bookmarks are stored locally so the popup can process them. They are removed once the popup has loaded them, or when you close that tab.
• Session state: Once a file or an arc.net page is loaded, the bookmarks found (titles and URLs) are kept locally so you can pick up where you left off if you close the popup, including after the export finishes. They are cleared when you click "Export another file".

No bookmark data, URLs, titles, or file contents ever leave your browser.

Permissions and why we need them

• storage: To temporarily save export progress and Mode B data between popup opens.
• activeTab: To interact with the current arc.net tab when extracting bookmarks (Mode B).
• downloads: To save the generated bookmarks HTML file to your computer.
• host_permissions (arc.net): To run the content script on arc.net space and folder pages only, which adds the export button there.
• Content script on extensionpay.com: Lets ExtensionPay tell the extension when a payment has completed.

Payment processing

ArcEscape offers a one-time $9.99 payment to unlock unlimited exports. Payments are processed by ExtensionPay, which uses Stripe as its payment processor. We do not see or store your payment details (card number, billing address). To check whether you have paid, the extension contacts ExtensionPay each time you open it, even if you never buy. On first use, ExtensionPay creates a random key for your copy of the extension and stores your payment status against it. The key is kept in your browser's sync storage, so it is available on your other devices signed in to the same browser account. Your bookmarks are never sent.

The arcescape.com website

With your consent, the website uses the Google tag from Google Ads to measure how our ads perform, for example how many visitors arrive from an ad and click through to install the extension. When the tag runs, Google receives information such as your IP address, browser type, the pages you visit on this site, and the ad that brought you here. We have turned off remarketing, so this data is not used to show you ArcEscape ads elsewhere.

The website also counts visits with GoatCounter, a privacy friendly analytics service. It runs without a banner because it sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser. For each page view, GoatCounter records the page, the site that linked to it, your browser and operating system names, your screen width, your language and your country. Your country is worked out from your IP address, which GoatCounter does not keep. It also counts clicks on our Chrome Web Store, Edge Add-ons and Firefox Add-ons links, and which part of the page they were on. We only see totals. GoatCounter can't follow you to other websites, and it forgets which visits were yours after 8 hours.

This applies to the website only. Your bookmarks and files never leave your device. The extension collects nothing and shares nothing with Google, GoatCounter or any advertiser.

Cookies

The Google tag is not loaded until you click "Accept" on the cookie banner. If you reject, or never choose, no Google cookies are set and nothing is sent to Google. When you accept, Google Ads may set these cookies:

• _gcl_au (on arcescape.com, 90 days): links visits to ad clicks so we can count conversions.
• _gcl_aw (on arcescape.com, 90 days): set only when you arrive by clicking one of our ads.
• Google's own cookies (on google.com and doubleclick.net): used by Google to measure ads. See how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

GoatCounter sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser, so the cookie banner doesn't cover it.

We remember your choice in your browser's local storage, not in a cookie. You can change it at any time: Change cookie settings.

Your rights (UK GDPR)

• Controller: Soules Studio Ltd, registered in England and Wales, company number 16797987, registered office 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London WC2H 9JQ, United Kingdom.
• Lawful basis: for the Google tag, your consent, given through the cookie banner. Withdrawing it does not affect measurement that happened before. For GoatCounter, our legitimate interest in knowing how many people visit the site and which links they use.
• International transfers: Google LLC processes this data in the United States under the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. GoatCounter is run from Ireland and stores its data in Finland and Germany.
• Retention: the cookies above expire after 90 days. Google keeps ad measurement data according to its own retention policy, see Google's privacy policy. GoatCounter keeps visit counts until we delete them.
• Your rights: you can ask us for access to, correction of, or erasure of your data, and you can withdraw consent at any time. Because the extension collects nothing, we usually hold no data about you beyond what Google holds for ad measurement. You can review and control that in Google's My Ad Center.
• Complaints: you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Third-party services

• ExtensionPay / Stripe: Payment processing and purchase checks for the extension. Subject to their own privacy policies.
• Google Ads: Ad measurement on the arcescape.com website only, with your consent. Subject to Google's privacy policy.
• GoatCounter: Cookieless visit counts on the arcescape.com website only. Subject to GoatCounter's privacy policy.

No other third-party services are used. The only outside service the extension talks to is ExtensionPay, to process and check payments.

Your local files

When you select StorableSidebar.json (Mode A), the file is read entirely within your browser using the standard File API. The contents are parsed in memory, used to generate the export file, and never transmitted anywhere. The extension does not access any other files on your computer.

Children's privacy

ArcEscape is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any information from children.

If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top.
