Arc shutdown: what to do before December 22

Published on October 23, 2026

On October 22, 2026, The Browser Company announced that Arc is shutting down. The desktop app stops working on December 22. Your pinned tabs, folders and spaces live in Arc's sidebar, and Arc has no export button, so plan the move before that date.

The key dates

  • October 22, 2026: the shutdown is announced. Arc no longer accepts new accounts.
  • November 23, 2026: mobile sync and Arc's AI features turn off.
  • December 22, 2026: the Arc desktop app stops working.
  • Within 30 days after that: The Browser Company deletes the account data it holds.

Export before December 22. After that date you can't open Arc to check what you exported.

Where are you going?

Going to Dia?

Use Dia's built-in importer. It's free and made by the same team.

Going anywhere else, or want a backup file?

Use ArcEscape. It turns your sidebar into a standard bookmarks file that Chrome, Zen, Firefox, Brave, Edge, Vivaldi and Safari can import, with every space and nested folder kept.

Moving to Zen

Zen is the closest thing to Arc: vertical tabs, workspaces and pinned tabs. It's built on Firefox, so you can install ArcEscape in Zen from Firefox Add-ons, or export from Arc or Chrome and bring the file over.

  1. Export your sidebar with ArcEscape and save the HTML file.
  2. In Zen, open the Library with Cmd+Shift+O (Ctrl+Shift+O on Windows).
  3. Choose Import and Backup, then Import Bookmarks from HTML, and pick the file.

Each Arc space arrives as a bookmark folder. Zen doesn't turn them into workspaces automatically.
